Traditionally packaged in heavy glass bottles, plastic sauce and liquid packaging is expected to be light weight and sharply reduce the risk of breakage during processing, handlign and transport. LDPE, HDPE and PP however do not provide enough protection from oxygen to avoid discolouration and the degradation of vitamins.
High barrier Bottle and Tube packaging with EVALâ„¢ blocks oxygen ingress, extending shelf life and ensuring vitamen content. Â Tomato-based sauces remain fresh and keep their appetising red colour, without the need for added antioxidants.
All plastic barrier bottles and tubes are also flexible and easy to squeeze without losing its shape, even after frequent usage.
What an EVALâ„¢ barrier layer offers:
prevents penetration of oxygen, which could cause premature spoilage of the product
ensures that all the vitamins, aroma substances and the highly oxidation-sensitive ingredients and fatty acids are well preserved
no oxygen-related discoloration of tomato-based pro
LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) is a multilayer capable substrate technology offering excellent RF and microwave performance characteristics. Thanks to its low sintering temperature (around 900°C) allows it to co-fire with highly conductive metals such as silver and gold. It is sometimes referred to as “glass ceramics” because glass is mixed in its main raw material, alumina.
Elite Advanced Technologies is one of the few LTCC specialists globally that is producing its own green tape (base material low temperature co-fired ceramics).
LTCC is best suited for applications that can take advantage of one or more of the following:
Good electrical performance
Dimensional and electrical stability under temperature, moisture and mechanical stress
3D capability curved, cavities, channels
Effective thermal management with metal loaded vias (>100 W/MK)
Hermeticity
Matched TCE with semiconductors (Thermal Coefficient of Expansion)
Multiple assembly and packaging solutions

Food packaging should not only keep oxygen out and lock aroma and MAP gases in, but it should also look attractive at the point of purchase to give customers an extra incentive. Packaging has to be light in weight yet strong enough to maintain all its powerful characteristics during transport or handling.

What an EVALâ„¢ barrier layer offers:
- Outstanding oxygen barrier to protect the valuable ingredients of the food
- Extended shelf life for MAP (Modified Atmosphere packaging)
- Printability with high-quality and eye-catching graphics

As product formulas become more complex, they often become more volatile andsensitive to oxygen.
EVALâ„¢ provides a functional barrier in both directions: assuring formula integrity and quality while blocking the permeation of external gases and contaminants.
Unbreakable all-plastic barrier structures with EVALâ„¢ allow transparencyand squeezability for safe and convenient use.
In addition to flexible pouches and SUP, typical applications inlcude ampoules, bottles, eye liquid dosers and inhalers.
Food that is presented in cups made of thin, crystal-clear plastic, looks particularly appetising. Crystal-clear barrier cups and trays are a fast-growing segment in the packaging market.
The most important requirement for these thermoformed sheet packaging is that it protects the flavour of the contents, keeping it fresh for a long period of time, even in non-refrigerated conditions.
Kuraray has especially developed EVALâ„¢ types T and J to provide an excellent oxygen barrier and a good transparency and to ensure that the food retains its flavour and colour for a long period of time. Even under deep forming conditions, these two EVALâ„¢ types provide a good and even layer distribution, which makes them particularly suited for thermoformed packaging applications.
Coextruded multilayer thermoformed cups with an oxygen barrier layer of EVOH can easily be pasteurised and show a remarkable resistance against deformation upon thermal treatment.

The gas barrier properties of an EVALâ„¢ layer ensure that the flavour and the quality of the food are well preserved for an extended period of time. An EVALâ„¢ layer also keeps the Modified Atmosphere and aromas inside the package, extending the shelf life of fresh food.
EVALâ„¢ offers the following benefits:
outstanding gas barrier properties
prevents oxygen from penetrating the package
gives fresh food longer shelf life without antioxidants
locks aromas in
extends shelf life
protects sensitive vitamin content
protects against oustside odour and contamination like MOSH/MOAH mineral oils
