The SPIROL Model PH Heat Insert Driver provides an accurate and consistent method to simultaneously install multiple Threaded Inserts or Compression Limiters at multiple elevations. Simultaneous installation dramatically increases productivity and simplifies the number of manufacturing steps to complete an assembly. Additionally, the platen head and fixture can be easily changed to accommodate quick change-over to different assemblies associated with new production runs.
This machine can be used to install 12 Inserts into 1 assembly, or a fewer number of Inserts into a larger number of assemblies – as long as the total combination does not exceed 12 Inserts.
SPIROL's Knurled Pins are manufactured with two different knurl types: straight knurls and helical knurls. Unlike a Straight Pin, where retention is provided by the uniform interference between the pin and hole, Knurled Pins are designed to cut into the host. The displacement of the host material into the valleys of the knurls yields more frictional contact area between the Knurled Pin and hole; thus resulting in higher retention. Solid Pins with retention features such as knurls and barbs allow for wider hole tolerances than Solid Pins without retention features (i.e. Straight Pins).
The SPIROL Model HA Automatic Heat Insert Driver provides an accurate and consistent method to install virtually any type of Heat/Ultrasonic Style Insert into thermoplastic assemblies. With this exceptionally versatile machine, the operator does not need to physically touch the Insert during the entire installation process. SPIROL’s Model HA Automatic Heat Insert Driver has been designed to eliminate the dependency on the operator to control the factors of time, temperature and pressure to ensure nearly perfect flow of the plastic for optimal retention and performance.
The Model HA Automatic Heat Insert Driver installs Threaded Inserts ranging in size from M2 – M8 metric threads and #2 – 3/8 unified threads. The machine can be configured to accommodate a variety of applications and the heat tips are easily interchangeable to accommodate various sized Inserts.
The Model CLX operates the same way as SPIROL's Model CL, yet this extra-large Compression Limiter Installation Machine is custom-designed to accommodate larger assemblies outside the standard footprint of the Model CL.

SPIROL's Installation Machines are the ideal foundation for stand-alone systems and enhanced assembly systems provided by SPIROL. Our standardized, time-tested, modular designs are robust, reliable and easily adjustable — allowing simple customisation to meet the specific needs of your application.
More than 80% of the components in the Insert Installation Machines we design are pre-tested and production-proven standard items. This translates into faster delivery, greater reliability, and lowest cost for Insert Installation Equipment of comparable quality.
We specialize in custom application-specific part holding devices. Fixturing – holding your components accurately and firmly during insertion – is a critical element to the performance of your assembly equipment.
SPIROL specializes in the manufacture of precision machined AAR Nuts for the railroad industry. SPIROL's Railroad Nuts are held 100% square to the tap. SPIROL's thread pitch diameter allowances are engineered for ease of assembly after plating, yet manufactured to strict standards with specific gages. Each production lot has a unique identification number and is traceable through each manufacturing process back to the original raw material test certificate.
SPIROL's Railroad Nuts, otherwise referred to as AAR Clamp Nuts, Binding Nuts, and Gold Test Nuts or AAR Signal Nuts are used in signal lights, crossing bells and terminal blocks.
Heat / Ultrasonic Inserts are designed for post-mould installation in thermoplastics. Heat and ultrasonic installation yield outstanding performance results. SPIROL offers several different series of Heat/Ultrasonic Inserts available in a long and short version of each thread size. Long lengths maximize torque and pull-out resistance, while short lengths are good for less stringent requirements at lower cost and shorter installation times. Some styles are available with or without a head. The head provides bearing surface for the mating component that also prevents jack-out (or when used in reverse, can prevent pull through). However, adding a head results in additional cost raw material of a larger diameter is required to create the head. Some non-headed Inserts are symmetrical – thus eliminating the need to orient the Insert prior to installation.
Press-In Inserts are designed to be pressed into a straight hole without melting the plastic prior to installation. Ideal for use in softer plastics, the helical knurls of the Press-In Inserts are used to provide both torque and pull-out resistance and to ensure good plastic flow as the Insert rotates into the hole. Installation torque to achieve sufficient tension between the threads is not a problem in that the helical knurls are designed so that the direction of the installation torque will have the tendency to drive the Insert into the hole — which of course is not possible — as the threaded joint is tightened. A pilot only slightly smaller than the hole and of sufficient length is designed to assure straight insertion into the hole. Press-In Inserts offer rapid installation with no specialized equipment and achieve good overall joint performance.
If installation equipment is required, SPIROL also offers a standard comprehensive line of Insert Installation Equipment.
SPIROL Pin Inserters feed all common types of pins — headed or straight — as well as Bushings, Rivets, Press-In Inserts and many other similar components.
Whether your requirements are for a standard Pin Inserter (with or without fixturing) or a custom designed system, our objective is to build reliable and cost effective equipment that provides the right degree of automation based on the volume and complexity of the assembly process involved; the degree of automation that yields the lowest per unit assembly cost and the optimum pay back.
Since the development of coil springs in turret tooling, engineers have been challenged to increase the productivity of turret presses even further. In a traditional press, the option of material type and material thickness is limited by the coil springs inability to produce a high force in a short linear distance. When this performance is necessary, coil springs will have a negative effect on the quality of the formed product and efficiency of the manufacturing process.
SPIROL® Disc Springs are the solution to form thick materials, large extrusions, and more complex designs. When stacked in series, they are capable of providing a greater, more consistent stripping force than coil springs and require less space. They have become an instrumental component in the advancement of turret punch press tooling.

Some of SPIROL's standard Pin Installation Models can be equipped with a pusher punch (in place of a pin insertion quill) to press Threaded Inserts into plastic assemblies. The most appropriate Installation Machine depends on the actual insertion force required to press the Insert into the plastic hole and the desired productivity. Generally speaking, the Model PMH Heavy Duty Installation Machine is typically used for low to medium volume installation, and for medium to high volume installation, SPIROL's Model PH/PHX Platen-Style Installation Machines can be used for simultaneous installation of several Press-In Inserts at the same or different elevations. Due to the length to diameter ratio of Press -In Inserts, it is not possible to cost-effectively tube feed this type of Threaded Insert with SPIROL's automatic feeding and Installation machines.
SPIROL's Series 600 Superflex Coiled Pin has a loosely wrapped outer coil and a diameter at 90° to the seam equal to the hole size to provide a low insertion force and enhanced flexibility after insertion. The Superflex Pin eliminates insertion problems associated with hardened holes with sharp edges. A Superflex Coiled Pin is not distorted during insertion and maintains its straightness. One example of a great application for the Superflex Pin is when the pin is inserted into a shaft with both ends exposed for engagement into a slotted clutch component.
While Coiled Spring Pins are extremely versatile self-retaining fasteners that can be used for many different functions, SPIROL has designed several series of Coiled Pins to meet the nuances and performance requirements of some particular niche applications. These Coiled Spring Pins are variations of our standard product either manufactured from special material, have a special finish or undergo specific processing to meet performance, corrosion, compatibility and assembly requirements for the specific application. These pre-designed application-specific series of Coiled Pins help companies shorten the design cycle to confidently launch their product quickly to their market with a pinning solution that has been tested and proven within their assembly.
SPIROL’s Dowel Bushings and Spring Dowels are designed to maintain alignment and are used to locate components with respect to each other. These roll-formed, hollow Alignment Dowels have lead-in chamfers that facilitate insertion into the holes of both mating components. The Dowel's flexibility enables absorption of wide hole tolerances and the staggered seam prevents interlocking.
Dowel Bushings are designed with an inside diameter clearance that allows the passage of a bolt for fastening, thereby eliminating the need to drill an additional hole. They are also heat treated to isolate the bolt from shear loads.
SPIROL specializes in the custom manufacturing of tightly toleranced Precision Shims, Specialty Washers and Thin Spacers. SPIROL produces Shims custom-made to customer specifications in thicknesses ranging from 0.02mm up to 9.5mm (.001" up to .375") using a variety of stamping methods, machining processes and laser technology to meet your specific lead time and total cost considerations. Disc Springs are conically-shaped precision components designed to be axially loaded. Disc Springs are often incorrectly referred to as belleville disc springs, belleville springs, belleville washers or simply conical washers. SPIROL offers the full range of DIN EN 16983 (formerly DIN 2093) Group 1 and 2 Disc Springs in Series A, B, and C. In addition to the DIN specified sizes, SPIROL stocks its own standard sizes with outside diameters ranging from Ø8mm to Ø200mm. SPIROL Standard Disc Springs were designed around the standardized calculations of DIN EN 16984 (formerly DIN 2092), and meet all material, dimensional tolerance, and quality specifications as laid out in DIN EN 16983 (formerly DIN 2093) yet offer an expansion in the diameter and thickness combinations that are not included in the DIN standard. Standard materials include carbon steel and alloy steel, both finished with a protective coating of zinc phosphate and oil.
In addition to SPIROL Standard Metric Slotted Spring Pins, SPIROL offers a line of ISO 8752 Slotted Pins to meet market demand for these pins. SPIROL offers Slotted Spring Pins manufactured to the ISO 8752 specification in diameters ranging from 2mm to 12mm in both high carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel in plain finish.
ISO 8752 Slotted Pins are not available with supplemental coatings such as zinc plating or passivation due to their propensity to interlock during the finishing process.

SPIROL's Series LP500 Latch Pins for Plastics are designed with a barb located under the head with a barb length equal to the width of the outermost section of the assembly. The remaining length of the LP500 Latch Pin is smooth without any other retention features. This allows the LP500 Latch Pin for Plastic to easily align and freely install through all of the holes with a plastic assembly until the barb makes contact with the final hole to securely lock the pin in place. Once fully installed, the handle will pivot freely around the non-barbed end of the stationary pin. The head prevents the LP500 Latch Pin from being over-installed, and enables the pin to be mechanically oriented for automatic installation. Manufactured from lightweight, lead free aluminium, SPIROL's LP500 Latch Pins for Plastics are available in three standard diameters: 3mm, 4mm and 5mm.
Standard Material:Lead Free Aluminium
Standard Diameters:3mm, 4mm, & 5mm
SPIROL’s GD100 Ground Hollow Dowels are designed to be direct replacements for Ground Solid Dowels manufactured per ISO 8734 when used in alignment applications. This innovative product is manufactured from strip steel, and then OD ground to achieve extremely tight diameter tolerances that enable critical alignment up to 20µm.
The main advantage of the GD100 Ground Hollow Dowel is its ability to achieve the same alignment as the Ground Solid Dowel with a significant reduction in cost due to its hollow construction. In most scenarios, the Ground Hollow Dowel is approximately 50% lighter and at least 30% less expensive than the solid equivalent.
If installation equipment is required, SPIROL also offers a standard comprehensive line of Installation Equipment from manual to fully automatic modules, with or without out fixturing, to support your assembly requirements.
Designed to install virtually any type of Heat / Ultrasonic Style Insert. As much as 75% of an Insert’s performance is the direct result of how well it was installed. Therefore, in order to maximize performance, all of the factors that impact installation must be carefully controlled. SPIROL’s Model HM Manual Insert Driver has been designed to eliminate the dependency on the operator to control these factors. The result is nearly perfect flow of the plastic for optimal retention and performance.
The Model HM Manual Insert Driver is simple to operate and easily adjustable. The Model HM installs Inserts ranging in size from M2 - M6 metric threads and #2 - 1/4 unified threads, and the simple up-down adjustment of the machine makes it easy to accommodate various sized plastic components.

SPIROL's Barbed Pins were created specifically for use in flexible plastics where optimum resistance to axial force is desired. The raised barbs are angled backwards, opposite the direction of insertion. After installation, the plastic will backfill into the area around the barbs resulting in maximum retention. Barbed Pins are ideal for applications requiring high pull-out (tensile) strength, and to prevent disassembly (i.e. tamperproof ). Barbs are not appropriate for brittle plastics or those containing high percentages of fillers. As barbs are a radial feature, they do not resist rotation of two components relative to one another. For this requirement, a straight or helical knurl should be used. All Barbed Pins are provided with a generous pilot to facilitate alignment with the hole and ease installation.
