Ensete ventricosum ‘Maurelli‘, también conocido como plátano rojo de Abisinia, es una variedad de planta perteneciente a la familia de las bananáceas (Musaceae). Es una planta ornamental apreciada por su follaje exuberante y colorido. Ensete ‘Maurelli’ es una planta perenne de gran tamaño que puede alcanzar alturas de hasta 3 a 5 metros. Las hojas son grandes, de forma lanceolada y dispuestas en espiral alrededor del tallo. En el caso de Ensete ventricosum ‘Maurelli’, las hojas son de un llamativo color rojo oscuro a púrpura, lo que le da su nombre común de «plátano rojo de Abisinia». El color rojo intenso del follaje se mantiene durante gran parte de la temporada. A diferencia de muchas otras especies de plátanos, Ensete ventricosum ‘Maurelli’ no es resistente al frío y no tolera las heladas. Es una planta tropical que requiere temperaturas cálidas para crecer adecuadamente.
