Hydraulikzylinder kommen in den unterschiedlichsten Anwendungen und Umgebungen zum Einsatz. Oft sind sie dabei Verunreinigungen, Staub und der Witterung ausgesetzt. Damit die Verunreinigungen nicht in das Zylinder- und Hydrauliksystem eindringen können, wir die Aussenseite des Zylinderkopfes durch Abstreifer geschützt. Abstreifer gewährleisten die Abdichtung an der Kolbenstange. Diese Abdichtung ist sowohl im Ruhestand (keine Hubbewegung der Stange) als auch im Betriebszustand (Hubbewegung der Stange) gewährleistet. Ohne Abstreifer könnten beim Einfahren der Kolbenstange Verunreinigungen in den Zylinder gelangen. Die statische Abdichtung des Abstreifers in der Nut ist ebenfalls wichtig, damit auch im Ruhezustand weder Feuchtigkeit noch Schmutzpartikel aus der Umgebung eindringen können.
