Korrelmeststof is meestal harder dan prill. De korrelgrootte ligt tussen 2 en 4 mm, maar Prill tussen 1 en 2/4 mm. De resultaten tonen aan dat zowel geprild als gegranuleerd ureum een zeer vergelijkbare samenstelling en thermische kenmerken (smeltpunt) hebben. Het enige belangrijke verschil tussen deze twee is de interne structuur van de korrels, wat de fundamentele sleutel is tot hun mechanische eigenschappen. De sterktemeting toont aan dat korrelig ureum een hogere sterkte heeft vanwege de prominente grootte en interne structuur, terwijl prills een zwakkere sterkte vertoonden vanwege hun kleine formaat.
